Rooted in Love

Scripture:

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NRSV)"Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

Love is more than a feeling—it is a daily choice and a sacred calling. In a world often marked by impatience, competition, and division, the love described in 1 Corinthians 13 stands out as radical and countercultural. It’s not flashy or loud, but steady and enduring. It doesn’t seek attention but quietly serves and uplifts.

When we love others as God calls us to, we reflect His very nature. The kind of love Paul describes is the love God has for us—unfailing, gracious, and enduring. It’s the kind of love Jesus demonstrated on the cross, loving even when it cost everything.

This passage challenges us to examine our hearts. Are we patient and kind in our interactions, even when we’re tired or frustrated? Are we humble and selfless, even when we feel unappreciated? God's love empowers us to rise above our natural tendencies and love others deeply and authentically.

Today's Invitation:

Take a moment today to intentionally show someone the kind of love described in this passage. Maybe it’s offering kindness when it’s undeserved, choosing patience over frustration, or forgiving when it’s difficult. Ask God to help you love not just in word, but in action.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for loving me with a perfect and patient love. Teach me to love others the way You love me—with kindness, humility, and grace. Help me to reflect Your heart in my relationships. Let love be the root of all I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
