Scripture:
“Be still, and know that I am God!I am exalted among the nations,I am exalted in the earth.”— Psalm 46:10 (NRSV)
Reflection:
In a world that often values hustle, speed, and constant productivity, this verse stands as a counter cultural command: Be still. It is not merely an invitation to physical rest but to spiritual surrender. God is calling us to stop striving, to quiet our racing thoughts, and to recognize that He is sovereign—over our lives, our challenges, and the entire world.
“Be still” doesn’t mean doing nothing—it means letting go of our need to control and trusting in the One who is in control. When chaos surrounds us, stillness is an act of faith. It’s in those moments of quiet trust that we are reminded of God's presence and power.
Psalm 46 paints a picture of a God who is a refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. The command in verse 10 comes after vivid imagery of tumult and shaking—reminding us that even in the midst of disaster, God reigns.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to be still before You. Quiet my heart when anxiety rises and remind me that You are God. Teach me to trust Your presence more than I trust my own plans. You are exalted above all, and I place my hope in You today.Amen.
Reflection Question:
What area of your life are you struggling to surrender to God? How can you practice stillness today?
