Scripture:
"...and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you."— Ephesians 4:32 (NRSV)
Reflection:
Forgiveness lies at the heart of the Christian journey. It’s not only something we receive but something we are called to extend—freely, repeatedly, and sometimes painfully. When Paul encourages believers to be “tenderhearted” and “forgiving,” he grounds that command in the example of Christ. Just as God forgave us in Christ—fully, generously, without condition—we are to mirror that same mercy in our relationships.
Yet forgiveness isn’t always easy. It can feel like surrendering justice or invalidating our pain. But forgiveness is not denial—it is an act of faith. It’s trusting that God sees, knows, and will ultimately bring healing and justice. In choosing to forgive, we are not only releasing someone else—we are releasing ourselves.
Personal Application:
Who in your life are you struggling to forgive? What would it look like to release that hurt to God today?
Take time to write down what you need to let go of, and then pray over it.
Remember that forgiveness is often a journey. Ask God for help in taking one step closer.
Prayer:
Gracious God, You forgave me when I was undeserving, through the gift of Christ. Help me to extend that same grace to others. Soften my heart where it has grown hard, and give me the courage to let go of what I’ve been carrying. Let forgiveness free me to live in Your peace. Amen.
