Scripture:
"Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters."— Colossians 3:23 (NRSV)
Devotional Thought:
Motivation is a powerful force. It drives athletes to train, artists to create, and leaders to lead. But as believers, our motivation has a deeper root — not merely achievement or recognition, but the desire to serve Christ in all we do.
In Colossians 3:23, Paul reminds the early church that every task — even the mundane or difficult — can be an offering to God. The original context involved servants and masters, but the principle holds for us today: we are called to do everything with excellence and sincerity, as if Jesus Himself were our audience.
This changes everything. It means our motivation doesn’t depend on praise, promotion, or even results. It stems from a desire to honor God. When we work with this heart posture, even the most ordinary moments become sacred.
When you're tired, overlooked, or unsure why you're pressing on, remember that your ultimate audience is the Lord. Let that truth renew your strength and focus your purpose.
Reflection Questions:
What is currently motivating the work or responsibilities I’m carrying?
How might my attitude or actions change if I truly worked "as for the Lord"?
Prayer:
Lord, help me to find my motivation in You alone. In moments of fatigue, discouragement, or pride, remind me that I work for You and not for human approval. Let every task I do be an act of worship. Amen.
